The Customer provides digital health solutions to healthcare organizations, including hospitals, clinics, and healthcare facilities, providing high-tech systems to support their clients’ administrative, logistical, and pharmacy processes. The goal of the organization is to improve coordination and performance of different departments from care teams to payers, helping them deliver higher-quality healthcare, improve population health management and improve efficiencies across all organizations.
The Customer was planning to modernize their administrative solution, which was deployed in a large number of hospitals. The rationale was to empower their developers with enhanced capabilities, allowing them to optimize functionalities and features in the business applications so client end users would benefit from enhanced performance across their administrative applications.
The Customer wanted to migrate their applications to modernized Java JEE architecture, with the goal of providing a more flexible, cost-efficient environment to deploy, develop, manage, configure and run administrative e-health applications. In addition, the Customer wanted to switch to a more flexible licensing model to lower total cost of ownership (TCO) of their global solution.
mLogica’s years of experience in delivering Java JEE projects and experience in e-health solutions were the key factors that motivated the Customer to partner with us. The project started with a complete migration roadmap that would help the Customer move their administrative e-health solutions to a new architecture safely and securely. A comprehensive assessment of their application workloads, functionalities and features was performed.
This was followed by an in-depth analysis of the end-state architecture goals. Potential application architectural incompatibilities and functionality gaps were identified, along with any current operating system dependencies. These risk factors were evaluated against the customer budget and timeline goals.
The x86 platform was determined to be the right choice for this project, while Linux was chosen as the new OS environment to run the applications.
mLogica’s exclusive LIBER*TUX application server provided the transaction processing services to support the application on the new platform.
The e-health solution was optimized based on a new licensing model that included hosting of only certain applications and their corresponding authorized users. The administrative solutions were then tested against standard testing metrics, including user acceptance testing (UAT), integration testing (I & T) and unit testing (UT). Then the Customer’s users were given access to a functional environment with fully operational applications in a phased approach, with the solutions piloted initially at one hospital and gradually deployed to the rest of the client facilities.
mLogica’s end-to-end migration support helped the Customer move their administrative e-health solution to a modernized platform, allowing them to run their workloads in a more supported and advanced architecture, delivering a next generation, fully integrated platform for an optimally-coordinated care experience.
This enabled the Customer to utilize the many features and functionalities of the modernized environment, which significantly enhanced the performance of their administrative e-health applications and provided robust security and compliance support. mLogica’s solution directly optimized systems for the Customer’s thirty-nine client hospitals and 100,000 users. Our technical support also provided the Customer with solutions for cloud and new developments. In addition, the optimized licensing model helped the Customer reduce their licensing costs and lower the TCO of their e-health solutions.
Administrative e-health solutions serve as the backbone of a healthcare organization’s daily workloads. Running such solutions on legacy architecture can have major impact on daily administration and management tasks, inevitably slowing down operational activities. Migrating to a modernized architecture can remediate this issue and provide the users with a more advanced, fast-paced and secure environment to process administrative transactions.
mLogica’s technical support was instrumental in assisting the Customer to successfully move their mission-critical administrative applications to a modernized platform, optimizing service to healthcare providers and while realizing substantial cost savings.
